The Oderbruch is a flat river plain along the middle Oder in Brandenburg. It was drained in the 18th century and is now used for agriculture. Between 2023 and 2025, the BFL built eight water-retaining structures in this region, which lies north of Frankfurt an der Oder.

These structures consist of several angled wall elements connected to each other. Thanks to their solid construction and the fact that part of each structure is underground, they can easily withstand large volumes of water. The structures also feature grating walkways and railings that allow people to cross the ditches.

Due to their durability, impermeability and high compressive strength, precast concrete elements are an ideal material for building water-retaining structures. Therefore, precast concrete elements therefore have a wide range of applications in water networks.

The built water-retaining structures play an important role in irrigation, drainage and regulating the water balance in the Oderbruch region.
